Dumbwaiters
Small goods lifts for kitchens, laboratories and archives, with load capacity and openings set per project.
A dumbwaiter carries goods, not people, and that single fact changes the whole specification. Loads are small and frequent, openings are at working height rather than floor level, and the lift usually has to fit into a wall that was not planned for it. Bronze Lift specifies dumbwaiters around the task they serve.
Specified around the task, not the floor count
A kitchen pass between a cellar and a service counter is a different machine from an archive lift moving boxes through four storeys. The load capacity, the number of stops and the height of each opening follow from how the lift will be loaded and unloaded. Getting the opening height wrong is the most common and most irritating mistake, because it turns every single journey into a lift and a stoop.
What we set per project
- Load capacity and car dimensions, matched to the trays, boxes or trolleys actually being moved.
- Opening height at each stop: floor level, counter level or a mix.
- Number of stops and the side each opening faces.
- Door type, including fire-rated landing doors where the building requires them.
- Interior material, with wipe-clean stainless steel where food or laboratory use demands it.
Typical use
Restaurant and hotel kitchens, laboratories moving samples between floors, archives and record stores, and retail stockrooms. Tell us what is being carried and at what height it is handled, and the rest of the specification follows from that.
